Kids’ Corner
At 201 Dental Care, children are some of our best patients, and we take great pride in making visits to our office fun and exciting for them! Our dentist, Dr. Jessica Gorelik, works with toddlers through teenagers on a personal level to promote a healthy lifestyle and strong oral care regimen that will ensure good dental health into adulthood. We take a holistic approach to treating our younger patients and emphasize the importance of prevention.
Fluoride and Sealants
At 201 Dental Care, we recommend sealants for children to prevent tooth decay at ages 6 and 12. Sealants are thin plastic coatings that we apply to the chewing surfaces most prone to cavities. The procedure is quick and painless and will last about five years. The sealants act as a barrier, making the teeth impervious to food particles and germs.
Fluoride treatments are also an important preventive measure for your child. When your child’s permanent teeth are forming, we will administer a topical fluoride treatment following each six-month dental cleaning. The fluoride is absorbed into the teeth and will help reinforce your child’s teeth, making them less susceptible to cavities.
Mouth Guards
If your child participates in contact sports, a mouth guard is not an option. Accidents can strike at any time, and wearing a mouth guard will reduce the chance of a concussion by 50 percent. A professionally fitted mouth guard will protect the tongue, soft tissues and teeth from damage during sports as well.
Your Toddler’s Dental Home
Each year, more and more families are turning to 201 Dental Care for their family’s new dental home! The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD) and The American Dental Association (ADA) recommend establishing a “Dental Home,” which is defined as “the ongoing relationship between the dentist and the patient, inclusive of all aspects of oral health care delivered in a comprehensive, continuously accessible, coordinated and family-centered way.”
